"Tacit Blue are Chris Crabtree and Jim Rogers, two very
talented electronic music artists. Their CD, Dreamland,
should be one of the biggest hits of this year.... I don't
see how lovers of electronic music, both ambient and
rhythmic, can ignore a release like this one. I sure
couldn't... Yes, I was that impressed. This album is
accomplished, well-engineered and produced, and about as
sweet sounding as EM can get these days... and easily earns
- my highest recommendation!" - Bill Binkelman, Wind &
Wire
"...Tacit Blue adds another twist to this genre with
dreamy, space-themed ambient and new age. "The Crossing"
made good use of the liquid-nitrogen-cooled subwoofers here
at Electroboy Secret Headquarters. If you like Tangerine
Dream or Brian Eno, you'll probably be into these guys." -
Metro Pulse
"Highly imaginative, well produced and conceived... you'll
love Tacit Blue... highly recommended for their spacy,
ethereal, other-worldly quality." - instrumentalmusic.com
Bio
TACIT BLUE began as an experiment using sound design to
explore various ambient spaces. Jim Rogers and Chris
Crabtree, then students at Middle Tennessee State
University, were assembling a unique sound effects library.
Collecting "found sounds" quickly evolved into manipulating
them into other-worldly ambiences, the kind you might only
hear in rooms of your imagination.
According to Chris, "we were not even a group in the
beginning. We never intended for anyone to hear what we
were doing. We just wanted to experiment with some new
ideas and techniques for using music to explore space in
new ways." These techniques include the manipulation of
natural sound blended with manipulation of electronic
instruments to synthesize new sonic experiences.
Says Jim, "Our music is about capturing a moment in a kind
of musical impressionism. Sometimes we pare down all the
layers of a moment. Sometimes we just move freely through
them, leading the listener to find the truth in the moment.
Music can be very good at that."
TACIT BLUE released their first CD, "Dreamland" to critical
acclaim in May of 2001. Their music provides the soundtrack
to several award winning independent short films, two of
which can be seen at their official web site
www.tacitblue.net.
Chris Crabtree comes from the small Texas town of Stratford
where the horizon is flat and the sky is deep, at night
revealing the millions of stars that hide behind the cloak
of light pollution of cities. The grand desolation of that
place, and of the space which it revealed inspires a great
deal of the musical ideas Chris contributes to the music of
TACIT BLUE.
Jim Rogers hails from Nashville, TN. Growing up around the
rock music and space movies of the 70's and 80's propelled
his imagination toward a very progressive musical
direction. Already toying with audio experiments, Jim
became interested in electronic music in the mid 80's. It
has now become an almost obsessive means of capturing the
elements, pictures, and emotions within his life and
dreams.
Mission
Tacit Blue is dedicated to the exploration of space - in
all of its forms. We thrill at the work of NASA and
astronomers worldwide in their exploration of the infinite
space outside of that the Earth occupies.
Sonically, we explore that same space, as well as all the
myriad spaces found on the Earth itself. Every physical
space, every room, has a distinct sound all its own. The
shape of the space, the materials from which it is
constructed, its size, reception of outside noises, etc.
all work together to create a distinct ambience.
Head space works in a very similar way. Mood is affected by
the day's events, how a person is greeted by others,
positive or negative encounters, memories, beliefs, smells,
tastes, sounds, etc. All these factors work together to
create a distinct mental ambience.
These are the spaces and ambiences Tacit Blue is interested
in exploring. It is our mission, our journey. We hope you
will come with us and enjoy the ride as we explore an idea
that is infinitely definable: space.
